International Lighthouses On The Air Weekend will be taking place on the weekend of 18th & 19th August 2007. As in previous years we will be operating from Flamborough Head lighthouse. As of yet there has not been a room available in the lighthouse it's self, because of this we operate from a tent in the adjacent car park. Please click on a thumbnail below to view some photographs of the event. Any member wishing to attend please contact Jim G3YDL as your help would be most appreciated. You can either come and help for a day or come across and camp with us as places are not limited on this event.
A Bit About The Station
When we operate this special event station we normally use our flagship HF rig the Yaesu FT1000 Field but this year we will be running a Kenwood 570 which we hope will be an easier rig to use, thereby tempting more people to operate. The antennas are a 40 Metre Dipole and a Cob Webb, we are fortunate in that one of the club members has a Land Rover with a 34 foot pump up telescopic tower mounted on the back for which we are very greatfull of the loan. We run all this from a Honda Generator which we have found to be the best for these occasions, this also comes in handy for the lights so that we can see our beer at night HiHi.
A Bit About The Lighthouse
This lighthouse is known as "The New Lighthouse", it was built in 1806 by John Matson and was first lit on the 1st December of that year. It is 65 metres above sea level and stands 27 metres tall. It has a 650,000 candle power light and is remotely controlled by Trinity House. The "Old" lighthouse is just 1/4 down the road and is a chalk tower that was built in 1669 by Sir John Clayton. This has the ARLHS number of Eng 274. This is on the agenda for a future event so watch this space for further details.
Below you will find a list of links with further details of the lighthouse and the event itself.
